So...
I have been paying A LOT closer attention to labels
of many things. Interestingly enough, and depressingly
enough (for me), there are things that are labelled
"Organic" that are in some ways better for you for its
labeling, but then they stick some ingredient in that
isn't so good.
For instance, I was looking at organic/gluten free
tortillas. They have canola oil in them which is not
one of the "good" oils, apparently. Of course, there
are those who would say otherwise, but I have yet to
see it in a positive light from someone who doesn't
seem to benefit in some way from its sales, and seems
to know what s/he is talking about.
I also found some organic cookies that were pretty
good; I was actually excited - until I discovered that
the sunflower/safflower oil that is in them is also
not a recommended oil.
Some would say why bother? I suppose if one felt
like s/he was in good health without any concerns,
and felt that there wasn't an issue, perhaps there
isn't one. At the same time, many of these things
can have a hormonal effect - especially in women -
that is disruptive in a "minor" sense, and ultimately
unhealthy in a grander sense. It isn't the thing
that usually happens "instantly," so I would have
to question the "in moderation" idea that things
can be OK.
I share these things with you because I believe that
many don't have this knowledge, and just continue on
their merry way, which can sometimes include a visit
to diseases and/or syndromes that wind up being
treated with drugs that might have been avoided, or
possibly even reversed (if the cause is addressed).
(I found out recently that some "diseases" are actually
"syndromes," and are being re-labeled by some to
acknowledge that some things that happen in the body
are reversible, if the cause is corrected.)
You may choose to do nothing with this information,
and then again, you may find yourself curious enough
to check things out for yourself. It is the kind of
information I couldda wouldda shouldda checked out for
myself previously, but chose to go on in ignorance.
But no more. I am being so strict with myself, as I
have seen some effect already, and would welcome more
of it. I, of course, would never suggest that you
take my word (or anyone's, for that matter) about
what seems to be right/best for you. At the same
time there is a wealth of information out there that
is a bit overwhelming, to be sure. I don't really
know what "the" answer is (never sure that there is
just one) but I do know that a lot of what I am
learning about the things we are ingesting via the
food we eat, and the products we use, that is - in
my mind - despicable, and I am going to make the
choices that make the most sense to me given the
new awareness I now have.
In some ways, it sucks. In other ways, I am excited.
New possibilities await. Perhaps you'll join me in
this venture? I welcome your thoughts and comments.
Even if you're not sure others would be interested,
if you have experiences to share, I welcome them
publicly, as you never know how what you say might
be of benefit to another.
Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
