There is a saying that basically says if you always
do what you've always done you will always get the
same results.
It is an interesting thought that I am not certain
is entirely accurate. I say this because I have
been thinking a lot lately about what goes into our
foods and disposable things like shampoo and make up
and toothpaste.
Many people would say that anything "in moderation"
is OK. But...if something isn't likely to be a
"good" thing for you, is it really "OK" in any
proportion, at any time?
I have mentioned the fact that I am attempting a
"diet" based in some part in juicing. I have also
mentioned how I am also now looking to stop using
gluten products as much as possible, as well as
some other things. As a result, I am having to
consider alternatives which are things I have had
zero familiarity with - until recently.
Many will respond with "YUCK!" or something
similar. However, they are only "yucking" the
idea of it, as they would have no way of knowing
if it was truly "yuck" at all - unless they were
willing to try it.
I get it. I have been there myself. At the same
time, I have decided that I want to take control of
what goes into (and on - which also goes in) my
body, and my research into what goes into the
products we use has convinced me to reconsider
how I do things.
As odd as it may sound, one of the things that I
was most concerned with on a superficial level was
my hair. After all, a lioness must maintain her
mane. :P I have used a variety of products on my
hair, and was concerned about going "bare bones."
Surprisingly enough, I am loving what my hair is
doing with some very basic ingredients. I will
be saving a lot of money on hair care products now,
and I wish I had done this ALOT sooner!
I know the world in which we live only feeds into
us thinking we "need" so many things. But there
was a time in the world that much of what we have
never existed, and people got by just fine. Perhaps
it makes sense to reconsider the things we choose,
especially if we stop taking other people's (and
companies') word for the fact that it is "just
fine" in moderation.
As always, I am for people considering things for
themselves, and finding what works for THEM. I
do not believe in a "one-size fits all" mentality
when it comes to anything. The route I am taking
is one that I am piecing together as I go along.
The brilliant part for me is that as I do, I am
feeling better. It is also more important for me
to be healthier, than to strive for any particular
weight change, however, if that was to be a side
effect, I would most assuredly welcome it. (As a
side note that might be potentially interesting,
I have lost 7 pounds in just 2 weeks by doing
what I am doing - and it is with mostly just
walking as my "exercise.")
So...as usual, I am just looking to provide a few
questions and some food for thought (how particularly
appropos in this case (: ). Of course you can take
it, or leave it, but before leaving it consider you
might just be missing out on something pretty
incredible. I have found a few new things that if
I have stayed in the "YuckZone" I would have missed.
Our comfort zone is the familiar, even when it
doesn't really work for us, so sometimes it pays to
step out of it. Especially if you are feeling any
less than you want to be it might be worth researching
ingredients and see how they might be affecting you -
or could potentially affect you down the line.
If you experiment, I would love to hear your results.
Privately is fine, but would welcome it publicly below,
as I always think that we have something to learn from
each other's experience, as it may help to alter our
own.
As always, thanks for "listening," and
Have a great night.

The best of luck in this. I have always tried to exclude preserved foods and additives from my diet and I like to think it has done a lot to keep me healthy. I do not think I could give up gluten because it is such a central textural element in so many of my favorite foods.
