about what you are upset about.
I recently heard a story about a shop
in Brooklyn, NY that had earrings that
some were upset about because they
thought they represented the Nazis.
The symbol that Hitler chose was similar,
but not the same, as those represented
in the earrings. What Hitler chose to
alter was actually a symbol that was
quite positive and affirming.
Most people probably do not realize
that it isn't the same. It is just
similar enough for the mind to say
it is the same, when it really isn't.
I can see why people could be upset
at the symbol...but the symbol is not
the thing. It is a difficult distinction,
and while some may get it, there may
be others that won't, and will use the
symbol to incite its perceived meaning.
For that reason, a conversation about
the symbol - even if incorrect - is a
difficult one to have. Because of that
I mention this as an example of something
that has been misconstrued and upset a
lot of people - potentially needlessly.
At the same time, if we take a moment
to look at things and explore what is
happening in the background, rather
than reacting to what we think we know/
see, we may save ourselves some potential
heartache.
So the next time you think you know
something, realize that you may only
know what you THINK you know, and not
what is truly the case (which, by the
way, could be a good thing - but it
is not usually those times that we
remember or hear about).
Have a great night.
